New! Sign in with OpenID
By Amy Hines | March 15, 2007
Thanks to the openid plug in for Wordpress, you can now sign in to this blog with OpenID.
What is OpenID? If you have never heard of OpenID, this screencast by Simon Willison is a good place to start. OpenID is about convenience. Instead of having a user name and password for each website that you visit, you have a single ID that you can use to sign in. With many websites requiring you to register to participate (or sometimes just to read), it gets difficult to remember your user name and password for all of them.
Two other great thinga about OpenID are: That it is open source - that means you can see exactly what is going on, and you could even host your own OpenID on your web site. Also, ID’s are unique, based on the fact that web page URL’s (aka a domain name, like google.com) are unique. My OpenID is amyjohines.com - no one else can use my id.
If you are interested in OpenID, you can read a detailed review at ZDNET. If you have an AIM Screen Name, LiveJournal Account or VOX Account you already have an OpenID! In addition, if you have a web site or blog, you can use that web address as your OpenID.
